Ferulic acid

Ferulic acid acts as an antioxidant and effectively removes free radicals. It is a tyrosinase antagonist, and inhibits the process of melanin synthesis in the skin, thereby lightening the skin. Ferulic acid helps to reduce the visibility of fine lines and pigment spots. It is used in sunscreens as an aid to repair skin damaged by UV rays. Often used in day creams for protection against photoaging. It has a positive effect on the production of collagen and elastin.
Ferulic acid works well together with vitamins C and E, increasing their effectiveness. It is also added to peels with AHA acid to give a gentler effect.
Ferulic acid is insoluble in water, up to 0.2% soluble in oils, up to 0.5% in propylene glycol and glycerin. It is usually used at no more than 1%, as a higher amount can cause an unwanted change in skin color. The solubility in the aqueous phase can be increased by the addition of sodium hydroxide or L-arginine.
Dosage: 0.1-0.5%.
