Sorbitol is often used in combination with other humectants such as urea or hyaluronic acid. The effect is similar to glycerin, well tolerated by the skin. Softens and moisturizes the skin. Glycerin in the formulation can be partially replaced with sorbitol and used in mixtures 1:1, which helps to reduce the stickiness of the finished product, which is typical for formulations with a high glycerin content. This is especially useful in recipes with hyaluronic acid or xanthan gum for which glycerin gives a particularly noticeable tack. In shower gels or shampoos, sorbitol significantly reduces the defatting action with foaming agents and dehydration of the skin after use.
Dosage:
for soap (cold or hot process) – up to 20%
for creams and emulsions – 2-10%
as moisturizer – up to 20%
